With Florida’s beautiful weather, it’s common for drivers to share our busy roadways with runners and bicyclists. Here are some cycling tips to keep you safe on the road:

1) Wear a bicycle helmet that fits and is adjusted properly.

2) Obey the same traffic rules and regulations as motor vehicles.

3) If a road is too narrow for a bicycle and a car to share safely, the bicyclist is entitled to use the entire lane and obey all the same traffic rules.

4) When making a left or right hand turn, signal by raising the arm of the direction you want to turn, and extend it out to the side.

5) When riding at night, the law requires that cyclists have lights and reflectors that can be seen from at least 500 feet away and wear bright clothing with reflective tape.

6) If you are injured in a cycling accident, move to a safe place. Get medical attention immediately by calling 911.

7) If you are able, record all details of the crash and get the information of anyone else involved, including eye witnesses.
