Distracted Driving Accidents

Inattentive or Distracted Driving accidents plays a part in one out of every four motor vehicles crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, that is more than 1.5 million collisions a year and 4,300 crashes daily.

Distraction.gov states that Distracted Driving in 2012 alone was the cause of over 3,300 fatalities with an astounding 421,000 people suffering injuries. Statistically, the average time an individual’s eyes are off the road while texting is 5 seconds and that when traveling at 55mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field blindfolded.

Distracted Driving comes in three forms– Visual (eyes off the road), Cognitive (mind off the road) & Manual (a hand off the steering wheel).

Protect yourself and others by always being aware of your surroundings, keeping your hands on the wheel, and reminding yours kids of the dangers of distracted driving.
